Jamie Stoneman takes commanding TNT Super Series points lead at Toronto Motorsports Park Victoria Day Weekend Challenge marks Jamie's third final in as many races!
CAYUGA, ONTARIO (May 20, 2009) Jamie Stoneman ruled the field at the Joe's Transmission TNT Super Series events this past weekend at Toronto Motorsports Park (TMP). A regular in TNT Super Series competition, the Cheektowaga, New York racer found his way to the winner's circle in both Saturday and Sunday's events presented by Rosehill Auction House. "I can't believe it," said Jamie in the TMP Winner's Circle. "Two weeks ago, the cab, engine and transmission weren't even in the chassis. We thrashed to get the truck ready for the season opener last week and got a runner-up finish. Here we are winning the next two in a row. Awesome!" The 555 cid big block Chevy-powered 1993 S10 qualified third Saturday, first on Sunday and then busted up the field all weekend long. Saturday Results
First round action had Jamie paired with Jim Flanigan of Holland, New York where he won on a double-breakout. Jamie Tupper of Tillsonburg, Ontario put up a good fight in round two with an .009 advantage at the tree, but he couldn't hold off the 147 mph charging S10. In the semi-final round, Jamie met up with number one qualifier Bill Elekes. He had the advantage on the tree with an .015 light to an .029 and never looked back, running a dead-on 10.903 at 141 mph to Bill's 10.926, 146 mph effort. On the other side of the ladder, Andrew Stirk of Orangeville, Ontario took out Fred Gross of Milton, Ontario with an .022 reaction to an .030. Andrew also ran a dead-on 10.907 at 143 mph to Fred's breaking out 10.892, 129 mph pass. In the final round, the advantage on the starting line went to Jamie with an .009 light to Andrew's .041. At the stripe, it was all Jamie running a 10.914 at 143 mph for the win to Andrew's 10.879 at 144 mph. For his efforts, Jamie took home the guaranteed $500 winner's purse. Specialty Awards - Saturday
Sunday Results Sunday was the best day of the weekend. Sunny skies and 55 degree temperatures made for lots of horsepower. Two rounds of qualifying saw Jamie Stoneman in the number one spot, taking home the Hoosier Tire Canada $50 award with a 10.910 shot. This also earned him the bye run in first round of eliminations. Second round had Jamie up against Fred Gross. "This was our lucky run of the weekend. Let's just call it driver error," added Jamie. "Just lucky for me that Fred broke out because I wasn't going to run the number!" Third round he met up with Gary Saska of Ingersoll, Ontario. Gary handed the round win to Jamie when he turned on the red light by a mere .002 seconds. In the semi's, Jamie was the recipient of a second bye run as the 17 car sportsman ladder dictated. The other semi-final pairing was Ken Jozwiak of Alden, New York against Ted Barnes of Canfield, Ontario. Ted's .018 light and dead-on 10.909 at 124 mph took the win over Ken's .031 light and 10.921, 133 mph run.
Jamie was quick to thank his dad Jim and his crew chief Jeff Gregoire. "I could never do any of this if it weren't for dad and Jeff. They're always there helping me," he added. Jamie mentioned they lost a friend last month. His name was Dave Smith from Fonthill, Ontario. "Dave was a part of our race team and his presence will be missed." Jamie also wanted to thank Rosehill Auction, Buffalo Clearance and Supply, Phil's Quality Auto Service, Putman Racing Services, Jason Vitez Racecars and Competition Transmission. "And I can't say enough about the TNT series and its sponsor, Joe's Transmission. And Rosehill Auction for presenting this weekend. We really appreciate what they do. It makes this all possible for all the racers."
