Bill Elekes wins in Pittsburgh and runner-ups at Skyview!
Veteran racer takes Hot Rod Ironman at IHRA Pro Am
WEST SENECA, NEW YORK (August 23, 2010) "I have to thank the TNT series!"
said Bill Elekes from West Seneca, NY after winning the IHRA Pro Am at Pittsburgh on
August 7th.
Bill
is referring to
the highly
competitive
Joe's
Transmission
TNT Super
Series that
runs several
10.90 events
in western
New York
and southern
Ontario.
"This series
keeps you
sharp. Just
look at Jeff
Sobczynski
and Jon
Jablonski -
both of them
are TNT regulars and both of them won an IHRA Ironman in the past two weeks also!"
Bill also had a runner-up finish just one week earlier at Skyview's Pro Am.
In Pittsburgh, Bill defeated Mark McKay in a very tight first round. Mark was .019 on
the tree and ran a 7.015 to Bill's .016 and 7.002 package.
Bill got past both second and third rounds on a red-light and ran 6.987 both times.
Bill took some delay out for fourth round, knowing IHRA gives the bye run to best
reaction time. Good thing because he needed it - Bill cut a .007 to Markie
Brewer's .005, but it was Bill who ran closer to the number at 7.006 to a 7.016 and
advanced to the semi's.
That gave Bill
a bye into the
final round
where he met
up with Greg
Fowler.
Having
watched
Greg win in
the semi's
with a redlight,
running
a 6.97, Bill
decided on a
strategy for
the final.
Both drivers
left with
identical .023
lights and Bill
was never in front. Greg took the stripe but ran a too quick 6.997 to Bill's 7.006 and
Bill got to take the Ironman home to West Seneca, NY.
"They let the old guy win the race," said Bill after his win. "I can't say enough about the
Joe's Transmission TNT Super Series. This local series is very well put together,
gives us national event level competition and a really good time!"
