FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TNT Hot Rod Super Series wraps up early Friday at DTRP
Rain triggers event to be called after round one
LANCASTER, NEW YORK (September 6, 2008) Even with remnants of hurricane Gustav approaching from the southwest, the weather forecast for Lancaster NY on last Friday night looked hopeful. TWENTY-ONE competitors in the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series showed up at Dunn Tire Raceway Park (DTRP) to do battle in the event presented by Rosehill Auction House. The season finale is fast-approaching and none of them wanted to give up the potential points they could earn towards the lucrative yearend awards.
After two rounds of qualifying, Steve McCarrick from Phelps NY sat atop the qualifying sheet in the #1 spot and earned himself the $50 Hoosier Tire Canada certificate (and a bye in round one!) Steve had his stuff together that night – he posted a stout 7.017 off the trailer only to back it up with a dead-on 7.000 in the second qualifying session! Steve currently sits in 12th position in the TNT points standings.
Round one saw five of the top ten in points make it through – Bill Elekes (West Seneca NY), Wayne Sipos (Binbrook ON), Gary Stowell (Macedon NY), Jeff Sobczynski (Cheektowaga NY) and Ted Barnes (Canfield ON). Unfortunately, Mother Nature and Gustav had other plans. The skies opened up around 7:30pm and drenched the facility causing an end to the racing for the evening. Under TNT Super Series rules – if the first round is done and the race is called for any reason, the event it considered complete. Points are distributed for the round wins & attendance - and the purse is split evenly among the drivers still left in competition. That meant a cool $100 to each of the 11 drivers who won first round. Not bad for putting only 3 runs on your stuff!
“We really want to thank the folks at DTRP for hustling to get as much of the racing in as they could. They always do an awesome job - each and every one of them,” commented TNT Series Director Ted Barnes in his rain-soaked trailer after the race. “And thanks to Rosehill Auction in Fort Erie for presenting tonight’s race.”
Next up on the TNT schedule is Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga ON this weekend (Sep 13-14). There will be (3 – yes three!) 10.90 races and at least (1) 8.90 race with a 10.90 and an 8.90 race paying $1000/win on Saturday night. Payouts have been enhanced along with various other incentives. Gates open at 10am on Saturday with the first 10.90 qualifying session at 11:30am sharp. Whether you’re a fan or a competitor, YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THIS EVENT!!! The points chase will be intense!
