Countdown to the 2011 TNTSS Championship - Fifth Place - Fred Gross

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO (October 12, 2011)  When Fred Gross began the 2011 drag racing season, his goal was the same as everyone else's; to get on stage at the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series yearend banquet.  And get on stage he will, as the Brampton, Ontario racer finished with 544 Fred Gross - photog Dale Boerupoints placing him fifth in the highly competitive sportsman drag racing series.

After top ten finishes in both 2009 and 2010, Fred scored four top five qualifying positions in 2011 including a number one; a feat not easily achieved in the TNTSS.  Combine those starting positions with two semi-final finishes and many late round appearances and Fred had a very successful season.

“The highlight for me is finishing in the top five, which was my goal from the season start,” commented Fred.  “And getting a break at the final race with my closest competitors going out early and me going to the semi's made a huge difference.”

Fred has owned his 1984 Chevrolet Camaro since 2006.  Built by Tom Bene, the car has a DSE Automotive prepared 461 cid big block Chevrolet and gets that power to the ground through a mild steel, ladder bar chassis.

No stranger to the winner’s circle, Fred's racing resume includes the 2005 Top ET Track Championship at Cayuga Dragway and an IHRA Ironman from the 2008 Pro Am at Grand Bend.

Fred Gross - photog Ron Rigby“I want to thank everyone involved in the TNT Super Series including Joe Boniferro, Ted Barnes, Russ and Arlene Parker and all the sponsors that make our series possible.  And all my fellow competitors whose support and friendship make the TNTSS a great series to race in.”

Fred was quick to mention that he really appreciates all the support and guidance he receives from David and Andrew Stirk of DSE Automotive in Brampton.  "And Paul McFadyen who revived my interest in the sport 18 years ago,” he added.  “My daughter Michelle for crewing with me on Labour Day and my companion Lis for allowing me the latitude to race.”

Fred has a new goal for 2012.  He plans a return to TNTSS competition for an event win and to get himself qualified for the 2012 Trailer Shop / ERD Race of Champions.
