Paul Young defeats record field in TNT Super Series at Empire's IHRA Pro-Am
GUARANTEED TO WIN event huge success - 19 drivers will race for free on Sept 18th!
LEICESTER, NEW YORK (August 26, 2015) The Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series rolled into Empire Dragway this past weekend as part of the IHRA Summit Pro-Am weekend. 38 cars staged for a little Saturday night 7.00 index shoot-out with Paul Young from Alden, New York ultimately taking the event win.
Presented by Roy & Tara Lister, the GUARANTEED TO WIN event drew a record car count for the TNT Super Series with 38 cars. That means that 19 drivers will get into the next TNTSS race for free on Friday September 18 at Lancaster.
“We knew the field would be strong with 59 Hot Rod cars in the Pro-Am earlier that day,” said Ted Barnes. “It’s been a long time since we've seen that.”
Young qualified 16th with a 7.039 and proceeded to take out Kirk Parry in round one by cutting down the tree with a .016 and coasting to a 7.026.
Billy Ryan was next and gave Young a run for his money in second round. Ryan was good at .009 but Young was better at .004. At the stripe, Young’s 7.004 closed the door on Ryan's 7.011.
Third round he met with Rob Holden. Both drivers less than stellar on the tree .067 to a .119 but that difference allowed Young to back into him for the win. He got it back in the fourth round bye with an .016 6.998 effort.
The semi's had him up against two-time TNTSS champion JJ Jablonski. Separated by a mere .003 off the line, Young took it in a double breakout 6.986 to 6.976.
The $1000 money round at 2:45am paired Young with last year's TNTSS champion Jason Vitez. The race ended as soon as it began with Vitez going red and Young laying down a .010 light paired with a 7.001 ET; An .011 package just to show he meant business.
“I want to thank everyone involved in the TNT Super Series - Ted Barnes, Joe Boniferro, his sons and Jim Thomson for all their hard work,” said Young. "Roy and Tara Lister for presenting and the staff here at Empire and IHRA for a great weekend!"
“Special thanks to Rob Dundun, Jamie Stoneman, Ken Jozwiak and also to CFM Carburetors and Al Linsey at Precision Cylinder Head Service.” Sponsors on the 1967 Ford include Old Dutch Wrought Iron and Emerald Construction.
“I also want to thank my entire family for all their support,” he added. “The car was great all weekend! It’s just a great time with all the TNTSS racers!”
Young was the 2009 TNTSS points champion and now has only two races separating him from winning his second Joe's Transmission TNT Super Series championship.
The low-slung Ford Fairlane is powered by 555ci Ford and is capable of 8.90’s at 151mph in the quarter mile off the stop.
