For more info visit www.dunntireracewaypark.com

The TNT series will both begin and end its season at the newly renamed western New York facility.  “We’re kicking off our season early this year but it’s in conjunction with DTRP’s Ironman Classic so it’s a great opportunity for TNT racers to double enter, get a jump on the TNT points and maybe go home with some serious hardware!” said Ted Barnes, TNT Series Director.  “And having a total of 4 races at DTRP is huge for us.  Western New York is a hotbed of Super Street/Hot Rod racers and having half of our events there really rounds out the ‘08 schedule.”

This announcement completes the 2008 TNT Series schedule.

KC Auto Parts is located on Seapark Drive in St Catharines, Ontario. Hoosier Tire Canada signs on for 2nd season with TNT 10.90 Super Series!

ST. CATHARINES, ONTARIO (Feb 27, 2008)  Hoosier Tire Canada has once again committed to sponsoring the highly coveted number one qualifier award for the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series.  A $50 certificate will go to each #1 qualifier at every event AND a $100 certificate will go to the points champion at the end of the season.  Ron McKay of Hoosier Tire Canada said ”We’re very proud to participate with the TNT Series.  These racers are our customers and sportsman racing is what Hoosier Tire is all about.”

With this news, the yearend championship in the TNT Series gets more & more lucrative.  Once all the dates are finalized, racers will find themselves able to compete in this series and not conflict with national or divisional meets.

Dunn Tire Raceway Park to once again host TNT 10.90 Super Series in 2008!

DTRPLANCASTER, NEW YORK (February 19, 2008)  The Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series is very excited to return to the newly renamed Dunn Tire Raceway Park in 2008.  The facility formerly known as Lancaster Dragway was the originating track for the TNT Series.  “Returning to Dunn Tire Raceway Park is like going home for us,” said Bill Barnes, Series Coordinator.  “Since the TNT series started here in 2006, it wouldn’t seem like a race season if we couldn’t return.”

The series will visit DTRP twice during the 2008 season.

Friday June 13th – This is VIP night at the track where racers registered in DTRP’s bracket points program are given spectator passes for their family & friends.

Friday October 3 – This will be the season finale for the TNT Series in 2008.  “We are very excited about ending our season at the facility that started it all,” added Bill.

At least $500 GUARANTEED to win at each TNT 10.90 event in 2008!

CANFIELD, ONTARIO (Feb 13, 2008)  Yet another exciting development in the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series for the 2008 season.  Each event will now guarantee at least $500 to the winner.

The payout structure for each event is based entirely on car count.  In the past, there would have been 22 cars needed to pay $500/win.  With this announcement, that threshold is gone.  “Both the guaranteed payout and the recently announced yearend points fund, were two of my major goals for the 2008 season,” said Ted Barnes, Series Director.  “I want racers to know that it was worth the drive for them – even if no one else shows up!”

Here’s how the payout structure works.  Each racer pays $50 to race.  That goes into the payout bucket.  Round money of $25 is paid to non-finalists for each round win.  Then the winner & runner-up split the rest 2/3 & 1/3. Now it doesn’t matter if 4 cars show up or 48 – racers will know there is at least $500 up for grabs to the winner!  Incidentally, at 48 cars the series would pay $983 to the winner and $492 to the runner-up…and it would pay $25 per round to all the other round winners!

3 Dates Announced at Toronto Motorsports Park

CAYUGA, ONTARIO (February 6, 2008)  Toronto Motorsports Park will once again host three TNT 10.90 races this year.  Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series is pleased that TMP is on the schedule this year.  “We ran 2 points races and 1 ‘open’ race there last year.  Car count was decent but we’d like to see even more participants,” said Ted Barnes, Series Director.  “Look for added incentive to be finalized in the coming weeks.”

TNT Series will be at TMP in 2008:

   Sunday June 22  **CHANGE**

   Sunday August 10

   Sunday September 14

And while all 3 dates are good, most of the excitement is around the Sept 14th date.  “This is one week before the IHRA National Event at TMP.  It’s a great opportunity to dial in a race car for a charge at an Ironman a week later,” added Ted.

With the previously announced July 5th race at St Thomas Dragway, this rounds out the Canadian half of the schedule.  And the changes to the points system should draw even more competitors to these events.  The four US dates should be finalized in the coming weeks.

Joe’s Transmission TNT 10.90 Super Series Huge Step Forward for 2008 Points Chase!

NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO (January 30, 2008)  The Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series is excited to announce there will be a yearend points fund for the 2008 season!  “This was something we wanted to do in 2007 but couldn’t bring it together,” stated Ted Barnes, Series Director.  “$1000 will go to the points champion and we’ll pay down to 5th place - all for a $25 entry fee.  On top of that, we already have additional prizes for the points champion!”

In 2008, the series will pay cash to the top 5 finishers.

Here are the year-end payouts:

     1st   $1000

     2nd  $500

     3rd  $300

     4th  $150

     5th  $50

Joe Boniferro of Joe’s Transmission has been a key component in making this happen.  “Without Joe’s help, this wouldn’t be possible,” added Ted.  “I know the racers appreciate his support.”

PLUS – each of the top 5 racers will receive an embroidered leather jacket.  “We wanted to make the jackets something the racers would remember.  So we sourced a quality leather piece and added the embroidered logos,” commented Boniferro.

The points system is also undergoing wholesale changes.  Points will be calculated in a similar way to the IHRA Pro Am system - with the addition of bonus points for qualifying.  “We figured everyone understood the IHRA system so why re-invent the wheel.  With 4 races planned on each side of the border, the points championship will be determined using the best 3 out of 4 events in Canada plus the best 3 out of 4 events in the US.”  Finalized dates & locations are yet to be announced.

Caruso/Torco offer fuel support to TNT Super Series in 2008!

Marc Caruso from Caruso Family Racing has partnered with the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series for the entire 2008 season.  Marc will award (1) 55 gallon drum of Torco Race Fuels Mach 112 to the year-end TNT Super Series champion.  “This is the first of what I hope will be many contingency sponsors for our series,” said Ted Barnes, Series Coordinator.

To qualify for this year-end prize, you must purchase a minimum of (1) 55 gallon drum of any Torco Race Fuel from Caruso Family Racing prior to the start of the TNT Super Series season.  “Not only will we award the drum of fuel to the champion, but we will pay contingency to the winner & runner up at each & every TNT Super Series event in 2008” said Marc.  For further details and contingency requirements, visit www.tntsuperseries.com

Stay tuned for added TNT dates both in southern Ontario and western New York.

Joe’s Transmission & TNT Super Series team up again in 2008!

NIAGARA FALLS, ON ( JANUARY 10, 2008)  The TNT Super Series is pleased to announce that Joe Boniferro of Joe’s Transmission (Niagara Falls, Ont) has agreed to support the series for a 2nd straight year.  “After seeing the success this series had in its first season, we just had to be involved again this year.  It’s a tough series with the best local racers competing and that’s who we want to support” said Joe Boniferro.  Ted Barnes, TNT Series Director says he’s very pleased to work with Joe for a 2nd year.  “Joe is a great resource for the series.  He helps me with different ideas to make the series better.  He’s my sounding board,” said Ted.

Last year, 44 racers participated in a total of 7 races at three different tracks across southern Ontario & western New York.  With the top 5 receiving embroidered leather jackets and a plethora of prizes at the yearend awards night.  The series is currently in negotiations with several tracks across southern Ontario and western New York.  Look for 7 or 8 dates this year starting early May, points system changes and points fund details coming soon.

Nov 17 2007 - Press Release

Joe Urbino takes the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series Championship for 2007!

The inaugural year is in the books and what a huge success it was!  The Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series saw intense competition this year.  With car counts as high as 26, even qualifying in the top 16 became a challenge.  After 6 races and the dust settled, Joe Urbino from Alden, NY was the last man standing.

Joe was crowned 2007 Champion on Saturday November 17th at the awards night at Mick & Angelo’s in Niagara Falls – (Check out the pictures in the gallery section of the website).  He was able to take the top spot by winning 2 of the 6 events in 2007.  “I couldn’t believe at the Aug 26th race when the car ran a 7.001 in the first qualifying session and then bettered it with a 7.000 in the 2nd session!” said Joe.  That’s the level of competition the TNT series saw throughout 2007.  And it was that type of performance that earned Joe the championship.  Series sponsor, Joe Boniferro said “The 2007 season was a huge success.  Being the first year, we’re extremely pleased with the growth and support of the series.”

Out of the 44 racers registered in the series this year, here’s how the top 10 ended up:

1st place  –  Joe Urbino

2nd place –  Ted Barnes

3rd Place –  Jamie Stoneman

4th place  –  Ray Martino

5th place  –  Tony “The Shoe” Platania

6th place  –  Harry Phelps, Gary Kerl, Bill Elekes & Ross Booker

10th place –  Marc Caruso & Marco Weller

Each of the top 5 received a plaque and a very nice leather jacket embroidered with the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series logo.  In addition to the jackets, each TNT racer registered in 2007 and in attendance that night was given 2 or 3 shots at the prize table.  Everything from a B&M shifter to an Autometer tach to Taylor wires to die cast cars to a $100 Hoosier tire certificate. It’s safe to say they each walked out with $250-300 worth of goodies!  The prize table was made possible by Boniferro Speed & Custom, Performance Improvements, Hoosier Tire Canada, KC Auto, The Balancing Act, Forbes Bros Chevrolet, Tri Line Auto, RPM Magazine and Russ/Arlene Parker.

Looking ahead to 2008, TNT Series Director Ted Barnes says a year-end points fund and guaranteed payouts at each race are on his list of goals.  “We’ve already been approached by several interested sponsors for individual races and we’ve been speaking with the folks at Lancaster, Toronto and other tracks in the area.  It looks good for 6 or 7 events in 2008!  I’d suggest you keep an eye on our website and look for the first event early in May of 2008” said Ted.

One thing that is already confirmed are changes to the points system.  In 2008, the TNT points chase will mirror IHRA’s Pro Am points system but will add qualifying points to it.  “A large number of TNT racers compete on the IHRA circuit and are familiar with that system – So it makes sense to use it” added Ted.  “Stay tuned for details!”

Oct 13 - Press Release

by Dave Surmatchewski

TNT and Deuces were Wild at Lancaster on Oct 13 – Ted Barnes had a Royal Flush!

When the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series rolled into Lancaster Dragway on Oct 13 for the final event of the year, Ted Barnes had no idea what was about to happen.  There was also a ‘Deuces are Wild Box/No-Box Shootout’ that same day.  The temperature was a sharp 50°f and the density altitude never really made it over 1000’.  Combine that with a brisk cross wind and you have excellent conditions for running in 2 classes.

Harry Phelps from Newark, NY was the first to take advantage of things in TNT Hot Rod - scooping the #1 qualifying position and the $50 Hoosier Canada certificate with his near perfect 7.001.  Qualifying 5th, Ted decided to run both TNT Hot Rod and Box ET classes.  In Hot Rod, he had to deal with strong competition from the likes of Jamie Stoneman, Dave Surmatchewski and Gary Kerl.  In the final, he met up with Ross Booker from Binbrook, Ont.  Almost dead even off the line (Ross’s .510 to Ted’s .512), Ted took the win running 7.013 to Ross’s 7.051.

At the same time, Ted was making his way to the Box ET final.  There he met up with Joe Passero and won with a 7.06 on a 7.00 dial to Joe’s 5.32 on a 5.24 dial.  The icing on the cake was his final win of the day in the ‘King of the Hill’ race between Box and No-Box!  Ted & Bill made a massive 12 runs in eliminations that afternoon in the span of only 3 hours. “We were going down the track about every 15 minutes,” said Ted. “The car was deadly consistent all day.  We had luck on our side too.  When I missed the tree in 2nd round of Hot Rod, the car pulled me through running dead-on with a 5!”

Crew chief Bill did the most work that day.  “My job is to keep Ted focused.  I clap my hands at the starting line telling him I like what I see,” said Bill.

Ted would like to thank Performance Improvements, Top Quality Transmission, F&M Signs, Steel City Spring and Skyway Golf Carts for all their support.  “I also want to thank Joe Bonifero from Joe’s Transmission in Niagara Falls, Ontario.  Without Joe’s help, this series wouldn’t have been as successful as it was.  But most of all, I want to thank my Dad.  He’s there at every single race and gives 110%.  I couldn’t do this without his support.”

Both Jamie Stoneman and Ray Martino also had good days.  They both improved their points position, finishing 3rd and 4th respectively – passing Tony Platania along the way.  Tony came into the day 2nd in points with hopes of catching and passing points leader Joe Urbino – who couldn’t make this race.  Tony ended up finishing in 5th place – just enough to qualify for the prestigious year-end TNT awards.  The top 5 competitors will receive embroidered jackets and plaques at the awards dinner – to be held Saturday November 17 at 7:00pm at Mick & Angelo’s Eatery & Bar in Niagara Falls, Ontario (see our website for more details).  All TNT racers at the dinner will be eligible for some cool prizes as well.

Aug 26 - Press Release

Joe Urbino turns rainy day into pay day at Lancaster’s TNT event!

On the weekend of Aug 26th, Joe Urbino from Alden, NY had been at the IHRA national event in Milan, MI.  When rain turned that event into a washout, Joe loaded up the family and set sail to Lancaster for the TNT Hot Rod race.  Twenty-five of the best 10.90 racers in the Joe’s Transmission TNT Hot Rod Super Series cars also took to the track.

When he got there, he made it look easy - blasting a 7.001 in the first qualifying session.  AND THEN, just to ensure he walked away with the Hoosier Tire Canada #1 qualifier bonus points, he topped that with a perfect 7.000 in the second session!

This was one of the toughest fields of TNT cars yet.  The top 12 qualifiers were 7.02 or better.  In fact, six of them were 7.00!  After chiseling through the field, Joe was set to face Tony Platania in the final, an always tough competitor from Rochester, NY.  Tony had a slight advantage on the tree  (a .522 to Joe’s .527) but Joe drove around him to take the win running 7.016 to Tony’s 7.030. This is Joe’s second win in the TNT Super Series.  “I got breaks when I needed them all day long.  And I hit the brakes where I needed to as well!” said Joe.  For Tony Platania, it’s his first runner-up finish at a TNT race.  He wanted to thank his dad, Richard who is always there helping him out.

Joe gained the most points available at a single TNT race.  This moved him back into 1st place – catapulting him to a huge 10 point lead over Tony Platania, now in 2nd place.  With only one points race left, Joe is going to be tough to catch.  Rounding out the top 5 are Ray Martino in 3rd, Jamie Stoneman in 4th and Ted Barnes/Bill Elekes tied for 5th.

The TNT Super Series next stop is Toronto Motorsports Park on Saturday Sept 1st for a non-points “open” event.  Thanks to Joe’s Transmission and HeadsUpRacer.com, they’ll be looking to take home the guaranteed $600/win! …And to hone their skills in preparation for the IHRA Canadian Nationals the following week.

"Open” event at TMP Sat Sept 1st with guaranteed $500/win!

Joe’s Transmission TNT Hot Rod Super Series has just announced the addition of an “open” event for the 2007 season.  The “open” will be held on Saturday Sept 1st as part of Toronto Motorsports Park’s Labour Day festivities.  This “non-points” event will offer a minimum guaranteed $500 to the winner!  All other rules will apply.  “We know it’s short notice, but we couldn’t pass up the opportunity.  The IHRA National Event is the following weekend – This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable data!”

TMP’s bracket program is offering a $1000/win for both Top and Mod ET each day as well as an additional $1000 and IHRA Ironman for the King of the Hill runoff on Sunday.  TNT racers are welcome to run both the bracket and ET classes - Throttle stops are allowed in the bracket classes at TMP.

GET THERE EARLY!!!

Aug 12 - Press Release

Toronto Motorsports Park goes from scorcher to soaker with TNT Hot Rod!

Sunday Aug 12th saw the Joe’s Transmission TNT Hot Rod Super Series prepare to battle at Toronto Motorsports Park.  The morning weather was terrific!   Sunny skies and 3000’ density altitude.  After two qualifying sessions, Jamie Stoneman showed why he is the points leader.  A 10.903 in the first session catapulted him to the top of the qualifying chart!  Doug Lynden was strong as well posting a 10.907 for the #2 spot.

Then…the sky opened up and down came the rain.  Resulting in a complete wash out of eliminations.

Since qualifying was complete, Jamie will reap the #1 qualifier benefits - $50 Hoosier Tire Canada certificate and the highly coveted 2 bonus points - moving him out of a tie and into sole possession of first place in the points.  Joe Urbino, Ted Barnes, Ray Martino and Marc Caruso make up the top 5.

There will be no rain date for this event - the 4th in the 6 race series.  HOWEVER – THERE MAY BE AN ADDED EVENT ON LABOUR DAY WEEKEND – STAY TUNED TO www.tntsuperseries.com FOR UPDATES!

July 29 - Press Release

TNT Hot Rod marks the halfway point with a scorcher at
Lancaster Raceway Park!

Joe’s Transmission TNT Hot Rod Super Series has crowned yet another new champion! Joe Urbino of Alden NY marched from the #2 qualifying position all the way to the Winner’s Circle on Sunday July 29 – And to the top of the TNT points standings!

They are called the “sharp shooters of drag racing” – the IHRA Hot Rod competitors. Their task is to take aim at 7.00 and hit it bang on. And hit it they did! You want to know how stout the field was that day? With a density altitude in the 3000’ range and after 2 qualifying sessions, FIVE of the 26 cars in competition had laid down 7.00 passes! Joe was solidly in the second spot with a 7.001. Doug Lynden of Fredonia and his perfect 7.000 landed him the #1 qualifier bonus – a $50 certificate from Hoosier Tire Canada!

Joe contended in both Box ET and Hot Rod. “We had a trans brake issue all day,” said Joe. “The car wouldn’t stay in the stage beam. I got auto-started in the Box race and it happened again in the final of Hot Rod, except in happened before the other guy staged so I was able to bump back in. The key round was in the semi’s against Barry Lingle. I had him on the tree but did a bad job at the stripe and gave it back to him by .008. Fortunately for us, he broke out by 001!”

In the Hot Rod final, he faced a tough competitor - Marc Caruso from Fairport NY. Unfortunately for Marc, a .497 red-light ended his day (6.881 at 114mph) and Joe went on to victory running 7.047 at 98mph with a .574 light.

The points chase now has Jamie Stoneman and Joe Urbino tied for first place with Ted Barnes a close second. Rounding out the top 5 are Ray Martino and Marc Caruso.

Joe wants to thank his family…wife Kim, daughters Jessica & Julia and his 8 month old son Joey. And of course Louie’s Car Clinic Inc. for keeping everything in tune.

June 10 - Press Release

Jamie Stoneman rocks the field in Toronto’s TNT 10.90 Super Series event!

The Joe’s Transmission TNT 10.90 Super Series made its second stop of the 2007 season at Toronto Motorsports Park on June 10th.  Weather conditions were near perfect with density altitude around 2000’ all day – the only snag was the ever-changing wind - crosswind one minute and tailwind the next.

That didn’t seem to bother John J Jablonski though.  He figured it out and posted a 10.910 to take the #1 qualifying spot.  But the man on a mission was Jamie Stoneman.  He entered both Top ET and TNT Hot Rod.  Jamie faced some solid competition as he chiseled away at the 12 car TNT field – taking out strong contenders like  Steve Ferstl and John J Jablonski along the way.  Jamie put himself in two back-to-back final rounds – taking the runner-up spot in Top ET and winning in TNT Hot Rod!

Jamie is now tied for 1st place with Ray Martino in the Joe’s Transmission TNT Super Series points chase.

Folks supporting Stoneman Motorsports include Phil’s Quality Auto, Sobey’s Fort Erie, Buffalo Clearance Supply, Rosehill Auctions and Vitez Race Cars.
